Land! 600 Plots to Be Distributed by the End of the Month!
The UPP knows that these are difficult times. Cost of living is high and the global economic crisis continues to rage. That's why we're doing everything in our power to ease the burden on working Antiguans & Barbudans.
To make the burden a bit easier and to provide opportunity for Antiguans & Barbudans, we are set to begin distributing 600 plots of land at peppercorn prices to Antiguans & Barbudans at the end of the month!
Out of our commitment to working people, the landless will be given first priority and individuals who were let down by the previous ALP Government's failed Land-for-Youth scheme will also be prioritized.
Minister Hilson Baptiste:
Lands are subdivided based on topography. The shape of the land will determine the size of the lot, but the average size is 5,500 square feet. Some are bigger, some are smaller.
The prices are also based on location and the infrastructural needs, so that if the land is on a hill where it is difficult to put water and electricity, it would cost more than land in a flat area, but the prices range from $3.50 per square foot to $5.50.
This UPP Government is committed to helping our people during hard times. And, giving Antiguans & Barbudans access to land is one way that we're delivering for the people!
Economic Citizenship Will Generate $100 Million In Economic Activity
Economic citizenship will mean hundreds of millions of dollars in investment in Antigua & Barbuda. It will directly result in at least $5.5 million a year in revenue for government. This is investment that will go directly into creating jobs and opportunities for Antiguans & Barbudans.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister committed himself to educating the public on these benefits:
We will go through the length and breadth of the country to ensure that the people understand and appreciate exactly what we intend to do.
There will be safeguards in place to ensure that the system is not abused. Instead, we hope that individuals who make a commitment to investing in Antigua & Barbuda and creating jobs and opportunity for our people are rewarded. We look forward to continuing to discuss the proposal with Antiguans & Barbudans and highlight the jobs and opportunity such a programme would generate for our people.
